About 2 weeks ago, Google began to mysteriously change their logo by adding a UFO kidnapping one of the “O” from the logo and at the same time streamed on their twitter feed a cryptic message that translated to “All your O are belong to us” a nod from the Japanese video game Zero Wing.

Then on September 15, the UFO returned this time changing the Google logo into a series of crop circles and another twitter blast of map coordinates that pointed to center of Woodham Road in Woking, Surrey. Soon enough users began to realize the coincidence of the coordinates  and the UFOs being that Woodham Road is near Horsell Commons the location of the first alien landing in HG Wells 1898 novel “War of the Worlds”. Well today it’s all clear, these last few weeks of mysterious logo changes has been Google’s way to mark the birthday of H.G. Wells. Born on the 21st of September, 1866 making him 143 years old and again changing their logo to signify this event with the alien invasion Google logo.

H.G. Wells is truly the one of the fathers of Science Fiction and “encouraged fantastical thinking about what is possible, on this planet and beyond”, Google blogged today. Google is known to regularly change their logo to mark significant events and anniversaries, but this is the first time that they’ve used a series of logos to build up an event. By clicking on today’s logo, the link takes users to a search results of the English author. Happy Birthday and Thank you Mr. Wells for making all our lives a bit more creative, I do believe!!
