District 9 was considered a big summer hit across America, but in Nigeria viewers may not even get a chance to see it. The Nigerian government has asked it’s cinema owners not to show District 9, which they say portrays the Nigerian people in a negative light. Now I’m not gonna spoil what the movie is speaking about regarding this issue, but let me make a comparison to an another amazing movie “Boys in the Hood” which takes place in Compton, CA. Just because a film depicts and generalizes a group of people in a specific area as gun toting , gang bangers, doesn’t mean that everyone in that area can be placed into that same group. The government of Nigeria should really just relax, remember it’s a movie about aliens…
